Revenue & growth associated with an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) program can vary depending on the industry, initiatives implemented, and how effectively the program is integrated into the company’s overall strategy.

Ketrawe plants trees in the Amazon Basin mainly in the region of Santa Cruz (Bolivia) for the following reasons:

PRIMARY FOREST LOSS IN SANTA CRUZ, BOLIVIA According to data from Globalforestwatch from 2001 to 2023, Santa Cruz lost 2.55 Mha of humid primary forest making up 48% of its total tree cover loss in the same time period. Total area of humid primary forest in Santa Cruz decreased by 16% in this time period. According to local authorities the primary forest have been lost mainly because provoked fires, agriculture and cattle raising.

In 2010, Santa Cruz had 28.7 Mha of natural forest, extending over 81% of its land area. In 2023, it lost 343 kha of natural forest, equivalent to 167 Mt of CO₂ emissions.

Environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria are standards within a company's operations that investors pay attention to when considering backing companies. Socially conscious investing has been increasing over time and many investors won't even think about investing in a business that doesn't support some sustainable and/or social cause.

Environmental criteria

Tree planting has a positive impact that includes areas such as natural resource management, carbon neutrality, biodiversity, water access, soil health, pollution control, and animal welfare.

Governance criteria

Tree planting investment shows sustainable and solid business practices that are essential for credit access and company value.

Social Criteria

Tree planting initiatives often involve local communities, providing opportunities for education, job creation, and improving the overall quality of life. This can strengthen community relations and enhance social cohesion.

Planting usually happens during the rainy season, when the soil provides optimum conditions for tree survival.

Around 3.5 million trees.

Trees play a crucial role in our environment. They cool the air, stabilize soils, provide habitats for wildlife, and absorb carbon dioxide, helping combat climate change. In fact, it takes around 450 mature trees to offset the annual carbon emissions of one person in the UK.

However, we're losing forests at an alarming rate—every six seconds, a football field's worth of primary forest disappears. In 2019 alone, 11.9 million hectares of tropical forest were lost, releasing as much carbon as 400 million cars would in a year. While we plant around 1.9 billion new trees annually, it doesn’t match the 15 billion trees we cut down each year.

Planting young trees is not enough; they are less effective at carbon capture than mature trees. Moreover, trees communicate through a complex underground fungal network, known as the "wood wide web," showcasing the intricate interdependence of forest ecosystems.

Trees are more than just plants; they are vital to our survival and the health of our planet.
